OBUPM 2008

Optimization by building and using Probabilistic Models (OBUPM) is a workshop at the Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference

Organized by: Mark Hauschild, Martin Pelikan and Kumara Sastry

Date: 13th of July, 2008

Location: Atlanta, Georgia, USA at GECCO 2008

Topic: Probabilistic Model-Building Genetic Algorithms (PMBGAs) replace traditional GA variation operators by (1) Building a probabilistic model of promising solutions, and (2) Sampling these built models to generate new candidate solutions. These algorithms are also called estimation of distribution algorithms (EDAs) or iterated density estimation algorithms (IDEAs).

The purpose of OBUPM is to discuss:

  • recent advances in PMBGAs
  • new theoretical and empirical results
  • applications of PMBGAs, and
  • promising directions for future PMBGA research.
