ThinkArtificial just published an interesting post on the use of a genetic algorithm for evolving Lego brick structures. The system is given a goal (for example to bridge two tables in the lab) and the GA with a cool physics simulator is ready to go.
Check out the post here. More information about the project [...]

Dave Goldberg just posted a picture from my trip to Japan (thanks) where I am visiting Shige Tsutsui. The first day of the trip we went fishing, it was my first time and I was surprisingly successful (well, I had a good teacher, Mikio Nakanishi). I really enjoy trips to Japan, Shige is a great [...]

Kumara Sastry and David E. Goldberg gave a presentation on solving a problem with over billion bits with a genetic algorithm (in fact, an estimation of distribution algorithm), the work they have done together with Xavier Llora at IlliGAL. The slides can be found here. See also related posts here and here.

Several days ago mensnewsdaily published an article RoboBusiness: Robots that Dream of Being Better on the work of Peter Nordin and his colleagues at iRobis who use genetic programming in robotics. See also this post by Dave Goldberg at IlliGAL Blogging. A brief quote from the article:
On the last day of the RoboBusiness Conference in [...]

The slides for the first lecture of Dave Goldberg’s famous course on genetic algorithms (GAs in search, optimization, and machine learning) are now available through slideshare (see here). The web site of the course can be found here. I took the course almost 8 years ago and the funny thing is that my most cited [...]
